The article breaks down the then migration of families to Florida and the addition of many new students to schools due to the storm. Finally, the story ends with a discussion about the effect of forced migration onto Florida both socially and economically, speaking to the specifics of its sustainability.

Description of Problem Presented in Story: A forceful natural disaster displaced many Puerto Ricans and forced them to migrate to the United States. My Description: Florida’s citrus scene is driven by its constant humidity and temperate weather that are ripe for growth. However, the large cool spell that has overcome Central Florida has been devastating for farmers, and much of their crop has become frozen and not ripe. Additionally, homeless shelters in Central Florida are being overwhelmed with individuals and the need for endless supplies. The weather creates logistical problems for both one of the largest economic sectors of the state and a community of steady volunteers.

Description of Problem Presented in Story: Citrus crops are not able to be steadily monitored and grown properly without the proper climate to create proper growth characteristics. Also, the mass increase in homeless shelter needs due to the prolonged cold spell creates burdens for volunteers that are hard to live up to.

Who Has the Problem: Farmers whose livelihood depends on citrus production and sale, along with both homeless individuals and the volunteers who set up camps for the needy in Central Florida are those who face the largest problems because of the cold spell.

However, their prime locations and general lack of knowledge create a dangerous precedent for unaware citizens.

Title: Flu virus widespread in the region, nation - 2 influenza-related pediatric deaths in Florida
Link:
My Description: Although the flu virus has had a relatively quiet previous couple of years regarding both its contraction rate and death count, it has sprung back up and shown its capabilities for damage in 2018. Hospitals, doctors and urgent care facilities have voiced a larger concern with the higher traffic of individuals who have contracted the influenza virus. The death count has rose in correlation, specifically with twenty confirmed deaths nationwide due to the dangerous virus. Central Florida needs to remain on alert for potential harm, as recently Alabama has declared a state of emergency to combat the current trend of sickness.

Who Has the Problem: Mothers and their babies in areas previously disease stricken by the Zika virus have a higher probability of lasting birth defects, such as brain abnormalities and physical ailments.

Forming An Opportunity Belief 4A

Assignment 4A:
My Belief:
As students adapt to how changing technological times impact their education, one this remains the same: they only want the grade. Products such as Smokin’ Notes and Study Edge are great for learning material, but, they are only used to make sure that they receive the grade they want on the coming exam or assessment. While I believe the aforementioned current services do an admirable job with exam prep, I find that students (including myself) have trouble finding what they need to do to receive certain grades on non-exam assignment. I believe an unmet need is a service that can show the work of previous students on given assignments and show all different letter grades on previous attempts on the given assignment. Directions are often vague, and the amount of time needed to spend on a given assignment can be confusing and mishandled by students who either put not enough time on an important assignment or an exorbitant amount of time on a simple task.  I believe this has always been a need, but with the increasing amount of technology present in the classroom and the presence of online classes skyrocketing, the need is now more present than ever. Opponents of this opportunity may point to the potential increase of cheating, but TurnItIn and other services imbedded in Canvas have accelerated to a point where this is now possible. Currently, there is no method to combat this need unless you happen to be lucky with an older sibling who has taken the class with the same professor and the assignments have remained constant over the years.

The Prototypical Customer #1 (Young Male):
Interview #1:
1.     Have you ever wondered what a previous “A” on a given assignment looks like?
“Yeah I never know I can best spend my time to get the grade.”
2.     Have you ever spent way too much time or not enough time on a paper because the directions were too vague?
“You would think the directions would be better, but yeah this is a pain I feel.”
3.     If there was a product that gave you access to different grades of previous assignments, so you could get a better understanding of what was asked, would you use it?
“That would definitely work for me and of course I would use it!”
4.     Would you recommend that product to friends and other students?
“It obviously depends on if the product lives up to the hype, but I would recommend it if it does what you say!”
5.     Why is a product like that needed, both for you and potentially the students around you?
“Grades are the basis for why we go to class, and a head start on knowing how to get the grade would be prime.”
6.     How satisfied would you personally be with a solution such as the one previously given?
“It would be something I have never heard before but would definitely be on my radar for things to look out for.”

The Prototypical Customer #2 (Young Female):
Interview #2:
1.     Have you ever wondered what a previous “A” on a given assignment looks like?
“Yes! I try and find people who have taken the class before to see if they can guide me to how best to complete an assignment.”
2.     Have you ever spent way too much time or not enough time on a paper because the directions were too vague?
“This is one of my biggest issues; time management on work is something I have to get better at.”
3.     If there was a product that gave you access to different grades of previous assignments, so you could get a better understanding of what was asked, would you use it?
“Absolutely. I think understanding how to approach a paper or assignment can sometimes be harder than actually completing it.”
4.     Would you recommend that product to friends and other students?
“They would be the first people I would tell, as I think most people struggle finding the balance with time and the grade they try to receive.”
5.     Why is a product like that needed, both for you and potentially the students around you?
“Things like Study Edge are great for exams, but there’s nothing to ease the burden of everyday assignments and how to best approach them.”
6.     How satisfied would you personally be with a solution such as the one previously given?
“If it works like you say, I would be 100% satisfied and would be a loyal costumer for sure.”

The Prototypical Customer #3 (Older Male Graduate Student):
Interview #3:
1.     Have you ever wondered what a previous “A” on a given assignment looks like?
“I often wonder what an “A” looks like because my work never seems to get it.”
2.     Have you ever spent way too much time or not enough time on a paper because the directions were too vague?
“Directions are often vague. So yeah, I would say I really don’t know how to spend my time sometimes.”
3.     If there was a product that gave you access to different grades of previous assignments, so you could get a better understanding of what was asked, would you use it?
“I would say yeah I would probably use it. The content of the assignment doesn’t seem to be a problem, but the formatting is something I often struggle with.
4.     Would you recommend that product to friends and other students?
“If I ultimately found it to be useful, I would have no problem recommending it.”
5.     Why is a product like that needed, both for you and potentially the students around you?
“Misunderstandings often come from not understanding the task at hand. I think this product potentially eliminates that.”
6.     How satisfied would you personally be with a solution such as the one previously given?
“I’m always looking for ways to help cut out unnecessary wasted time, so I would be very satisfied if that could happen with my everyday classwork.”

Reflection:
After this process, I learned that this opportunity is mostly a universal thing for college students. Grades, at the end of the day, are of the utmost priority, and a way to help cement better grades has mass appeal. I wanted to interview a grad student, as I wondered if this need extended upon all students, and to my surprise, they have similar educational needs and wants as everyone else.
Summary:

I believe, in the end, almost all my original opportunity is intact. At first, I struggled with wondering if such a niche product had large appeal, but a small niche of such a large marketplace still eludes strong opportunity. After all the feedback, I believe that I am better able to understand how individuals would react to the opportunity, and I can fine tune smaller details to create the best possible solution. Customer feedback is the basis for successful entrepreneurial endeavors, as their opinion drives sales. However, new opportunities might have give customers time to adapt to a new solution before respecting their feedback completely.

My Entrepreneurship Story Assignment 3A

My Story:

Like any kid in high school, I was just looking to have a good time and do well enough to get into the college of my choosing. Getting the grade was more important that gaining any knowledge from the class, as everyday was one step closer to college. At the beginning of my junior year, I was a varsity basketball player (the short, white guy in the left of the picture below) and at the time, was only worried about each and every game and never thought I would learn anything through basketball besides how to become a better player. One day, after practice, my coach came up to me, and my whole view changed.

Throughout the modern day youth basketball culture, a premium is placed on high-priced individual training, as delusional parents think paying someone $100/hr twice or even three times a week can change their son or daughter into a prodigy. My coach came up to me with an idea of using the gym at our high school and running group training for elementary, middle and high school players for a lower price, and wanted my help in both co-founding and running the day to day operations of the business. At first, even though I was taken back by the offer, I wondered if this was something I wanted to put on my plate as a large commitment, but I trusted my coach and went ahead. To this day, I can truthfully say it was one of my best decisions ever.

The Oviedo Basketball Academy was a major success for the two years in which I was happy to be a part of the business, and while our reputation throughout Central Florida became one of fairness and respect, the lasting impact on each player's became larger then could've ever imagined. Along the way, while further developing leadership qualities as a teacher on the court, I became adept with public relations, money management and social media advertising. From this experience, I became enamored with the ins and outs of entrepreneurship, as the feeling of both truly helping out an individual and enjoying the work that you do so much it doesn't feel like work led me to seek how to continue similar work in the future.

Why ENT3003?
My previous experience with entrepreneurship has only taken me so far into understanding the depths that come with turning a individual concept into a well-oiled business. I think this class can help me develop mindsets that will help me create successful business ventures into the future. I look forward to further learning concepts that I previously have little experience with.

Bug List Assignment 2A

Bug List:

1. Fair weather fans that jump on a bandwagon when a team starts winning all of a sudden.
Why does it exist: Winning is universally held as good feeling, and being "part" of championship teams can be appealing to fans who are not as dedicated.

2. When a person starts telling a "funny story," but they laugh while telling it and you cannot comprehend what the story is.

4. Airport security lines that are deemed important and take over an hour but are led by individuals who look like all the life has been sucked out of them.
Why does it exist: Air travel is a very popular mode of transportation, and because buying airline tickets comes with very little resistance, security must ensure everyone's safety.

5. Constant positive feedback youth sports parents give to their children, which creates average play and soft attitudes.

6. When an individual's side in a given argument revolves around a point they either read on someones personal blog or "heard" from someone they struggle to remember.
Why does it exist: Knowledge often times takes time to form and understand, so citing one easy-to-read article is preferred to time-constraining research.

Why does it exist: The mechanics behind a washer and dryer and large loads of clothes are sound, and are an efficient technique compared to hand-washing and hanging laundry.

Why does it exist: Hearing music that we are attracted to can help provide positive mood swings or lighten an individual's day, and listening to it without headphones still achieves a personal level of happiness.

11. When people struggle with self confidence even after multiple people try to convince them that they have nothing to worry about.
Why does it exist: Self-confidence cannot be bottled and sold to the mass public, and often individual shortcomings in personality come from past experiences.

12. When someone posts every detail of their life on social media for their dwindling followers to consume as if they are on some social
Why does it exist: Posting on social media provides a somewhat communal feel, and posting everyday action and receiving virtual emotional feedback, such as likes, creates a sense of acceptance.

Why does it exist: People can often go a long time without paying for a ride if someone with the app pities their struggle to download the app.

17. Toll roads take a randomly set amount of money from me just so I can drive on a highway with a car and insurance I've already paid for.
Why does it exist: Potholes and other road issues have to be paid for, and tolls are one way to offset those costs.

18. Whenever a sale is "Buy 1, Get 1 50% off" instead of  "Buy 1, Get 1 Free."
Why does it exist: These sales are still promotional and giving customers a deal that they would not get on a normal item, which is enticing to some.

19. Buying access codes for materials that I feel as if I have paid for with both textbooks and tuition itself.
Why does it exist: Access codes are free money for textbook publishers and are an effective way of gaining even more economic prosperity, because they are required for students to buy in order to access materials.

20. "End of the world" attitudes after events that are unfortunate, but in no way change their livelihood.
Why does it exist: Overreaction is the human way of overcoming an event that did not go in their favor and can be helpful in coping with eventual defeat.

Reflection:

I found this assignment to be less difficult in terms of coming up with the list of twenty "bugs," and more difficult to explain while they exist. The change in mindset and trying to understand the reason behind things that I feel to be problematic is a difficult switch to make. In the end, I did not find this assignment to be too challenging, but found out a little more about myself and what bothers me most.

First (Test) Post

I'm about as creative as a rock, so this blog is going to be terrible.
